Forse in pochi conoscono Brian Caldwell http://www.bjcaldwell.com/, marinaio oceanico residente ad Honolulu che nel 1996 si cimentò all'eta di 19 anni nella circumnavigazione del globo in solitario senza scalo, diventando all'epoca il più giovane a portare a termine l'impresa. Dopo numerose altre avventure si è comprato pure lui quest'anno per la seconda volta nella sua vita, un S&S 34 di nome "Gitano" del 1970 che si trova in questo momento a Seattle, e gli è venuta un idea oserei dire geniale.
Vuole organizzare la prima regata di monotipo attorno al globo one-design per S&S 34 !!
A breve comunicherà la città di partenza e il regolamento che ha anticipato sarà molto semplice. Unico requisito obbligatorio possedere uno Sparkamn & Stephens 34.

I first presented the idea to the S&S 34 Association in 2000 when I briefly owned my first S&S 34 “Stray Bit”. However financial difficulties dictated I sell her. Now that I’m in better shape and own my new S&S 34 “Gitano” ten years later, I am re-implementing the idea for the most affordable around the race that exists. It will happen in late 2013-’14! It will be the first ‘One-Design Nonstop’ around the world race aboard the world’s most reliable and affordable offshore design – the Sparkman & Stephens S&S 34!
The design debuted in 1969 when Bristish Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath won the Sydney Hobart Race. She then went on to became the first yacht to ‘double-circumnavigate’ the world nonstop with Australian Jon Sanders in 1982. In later years, Australian David Dicks, Jesse Martin and Jessica Watson all sailed youngest nonstop solo circumnavigations aboard their own S&S 34′s!

With the introduction of the French MOD 70 One-Design-Multihull race there is a one-design race in both monhulls and multihulls now…!
The start / host port of the MOD 34 will be announced shortly! There are NO rules other than you must own an S&S 34!"
